REBIRTH Stone Age Experience

REBIRTH Stone Age Experience will take a group of 12-20 participants back into prehistoric time. It is the first truly immersive prehistoric experience at a place where humanity has its origins – the East African Rift valley savanna.

And you can join! For 8 nights, you will live a life which is located on the timeline at the period of transition between pure hunter-gatherers and early agrarians. There will be a Stone Age expert living with you at the camp who will teach and explain many things about Stone Age life. During your stay at the camp you will have to apply what you have learned from him.

Further, there will be extensive interaction with members of local tribes such as the Hadzabe bushmen, Tatoga tribe and Maasai. They will not only show and explain you many things of their life which haven’t changed a lot since prehistoric times, but you will interact with them as if you were a member of a local prehistoric tribe, for instance by exchanging goods and food with them.

REBIRTH Stone Age Experience is not a package for passive tourists, but an experience which requires your input and activity. The members of the group will decide together who will be in charge of which tasks, so you can choose the activities you find most interesting, including Stone Age cooking, hunting with bow and arrow, building with original tools, arts & music, making medicine & poison, and many others.

Accommodation will be in simple huts that are reconstructed according to prehistoric Stone Age evidence. The huts consist of a wooden frame, thatched with grass. Up to 4 persons will be accommodated in each hut, sleeping on straw. At extra cost you can have your own hut without sharing with others. As the only tribute to modern times and to reduce risks, there will be a plastic floor and insect wire around the frame, so that at night you don’t have to be afraid of mosquitoes, spiders etc.

You will eat Stone Age food. Most of the food will be cooked by your group, the ingredients will be collected, harvested, hunted or swapped from people of local tribes. However, we will make sure that nobody will stay hungry.

On the last night, there will be a big ceremony that many members of local tribes will attend. The REBIRTH Stone Age Experience participants will be symbolically reborn into a more original, “authentic” and native spirit of life that they can hopefully carry with them into their contemporary lives.

The overall experience will take 12 days out of which you will stay 8 nights at the Stone age camp. The first night you will get an introductory briefing session staying at Highview Hotel Karatu, and after your stay at the camp you will spend 3 days/2 nights at a beautiful Zanzibar beach hotel to relax.
