Details - The Site
The East African Rift valley is an area full of archaeological finds. It is generally recognized that this was the area where human life first developed around 2.5 to 2 million years ago before man explored all the other continents of our planet. So basically, our common ancestors come from the East African Rift Valley.
Behavioural psychologist have even found out that humans in general consider the East African savanna to be an "ideal landscape". Landscape, city & garden planners take rules of design into account which follow the properties of the East African savanna. It seems that from somewhere deep in our genes we still "remember" the early African life of our prehistoric ancestors.
REBIRTH Stone Age Experience will bring you back to your origins.
In the Rift Valley, we have chosen a huge natural private plot of land, overlooking Lake Eyasi in Northern Tanzania. The area is home to several interesting tribes. Members of these tribes will not stay on the actual plot, but as part of the daily activities they will come to our Stone Age site and will interact with you. You can also walk to where they stay if you need something from them, such as for exchanging food or other items.
On our plot, there will be the following installations:
Accommodation
Based on Stone Age excavation evidence, simple huts will be erected on the site each time a new group will arrive. The huts consist of a wooden frame, thatched with grass. Up to 4 persons will be accommodated in each hut, sleeping on straw. At a extra cost you can have your own hut without sharing with others. As the only tribute to modern times and to reduce risks, there will be a plastic floor under the hut and insect wire around the frame, so that at night you don’t have to be afraid of mosquitoes, spiders etc.
Fireplace
There will be a stone circle with fire, originally ignited by Hadzabe bushmen. It will serve as your kitchen.
Water Fountain
Drinking water: There will be a fountain from where you can get save, clean drinking water. It will be fed by industrial drinking water that we bring as gallons.
Shower: As most freshwater around the Lake Eyasi area is contaminated with Bilharzias, for taking a shower and washing yourself there will be an additional freshwater fountain which is chemically treated to kill potentials germs and parasites.
The Magic Baobab
The Magic Baobab is a 500 year old tree standing on our plot and the locals say that magic things can happen at the tree. They have put a small shrine at the tree and you should respect the tree's spiritual powers. Maybe you will need them during your stay at the camp!
Grain Field
There will be a grain field which has been planted before your arrival.
First aid tent
The first aid tent will be out of sight of the participants. It will have a 24 h first aid paramedic and standard first aid equipment. Malaria tests can be made. Please read in our FAQ’s which other backups we have for cases of medical emergencies.
“Time-out” tent
The “time-out” tent will also be out of sight of the participants. If the situation should happen that you are really fed up with anything related to Stone Age and Bushmen, you can come to the tent, sit on a comfortable chair, send an email, make a phone call, eat a chocolate bar or drink a cold beer. However, as this is not part of the concept, we want to ask you to make sparingly use of this option.
Outside our plot, but in an area that you can reach by foot you can find:
Savanna area – you will use it to go hunting with the Bushmen and to gather other edible things Lake Eyasi – where you can go fishing using an outrigger canoe Settlements of tribes - Hadzabe, Tatoga and Maasai
